Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for acquiring targeted skills in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

  • 18 years or older
  • SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management from Melbourne City College Australia or equivalent.
  • IELTS 6.0 or equivalent
  • Successful completion of the college's LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy) test and digital literacy assessment

Must have:

  • Access to a computer (with Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word and a web browser)
  • Access to the Internet
  • Access to a video and audio recording device
  • Computer skills including an understanding of how to access an online video conferencing software, how to use Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader, and be able to download, scan and upload documents, and how to access online materials. (If you need any help regarding access to a computer and meeting the computer skill requirements, the college can provide support for you).

To be awarded this qualification, competency must be achieved with total of twenty-eight (28) units, consisting of 11 core units and 17 elective units

For this program 22 units (6 core units and 16 elective units) have been completed as part of SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management from Melbourne City College Australia or equivalent. Therefore, 6 units consisting of 5 core units and 1 elective unit must be completed.
